wax seal qld supreme court
Cunningham Martyn Design, 2012
The wax seal is an enlarged replica of the Supreme Court of Queensland seal. It is displayed at the Sir Harry Gibbs Legal Heritage Centre, Supreme Court of Queensland Library in Brisbane.
The replica is 220 in diameter by 25mm. Our own, up-to-the-minute, digital cnc routing technology was ideal
for producing a mould of the actual seal and fully capturing the minute and extra fine detail. We made an acrylic form from the mould and painted it with a 2-pac paint system. The final finish, a particular in-house technique, gave the seal a strikingly realistic feel.
The replica is 220 in diameter by 25mm. We re-created a 3-d digital model from a low resolution photographic reference. Our in-house digital cnc 3-d routing technology was ideal for producing the one-off reproduction from MDF and capturing the magnified detail. We sealed and finished the MCF pattern with multiple translucent paint layers at 10% gloss to simulate translucent wax.
