Stage One was formed in 1988, to fulfil the artistic production requirements of the retail visual merchandising industry.
Owned and operated by John Kerr, now aged 40, John is recognised as a leading “visual presentation” designer within the retail industry, whilst Stage One is recognised as a leading “one stop production house”, offering both inhouse design and artistic production. Our reputation can be substantiated by a 20 year portfolio, of complete visual presentations, which are all of industry standard.
Since 1988, Stage One has grown to service all major Australian retail Visual Merchandising departments, having further expanded our production services into affiliate industries, such as museums, visitor attractions, entertainment, casinos, theatre, film, TV and visual spectacles.
Stage One operate from a combined 3500 sq.mt production and design facility located 5 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. The production facility offers all aspects of production including:

Prop production and dressing resources
Animatronics, mechatronics, engineering, lighting and special effects

Stage One is synonymous for our elaborate “over the top” Christmas presentations, having developed Christmas packages for Myer, David Jones, Ralph Lauren, Westfield and Crown Casino. Our Christmas installations are enjoyed by millions of Australians annually, Myer and Crown Casino installations having both individually won tourism awards for their successful patronage, testimony of our mass appeal.
Stage One is best renown for the production of the “Myer Animated Christmas Windows” having produced these window displays entirely inhouse for both Myer Melbourne and Myer Brisbane consecutively since 1994. Stage One’s production techniques and technological resources are recognised internationally, as being at the forefront of excellence in both aesthetic and technological execution.
Since 2004, Stage One has developed the highly successful Myer Santaland’s, an interactive children’s visitor attraction, located on the children’s floors of the Myer CBD stores. Having to date successfully produced, managed and staffed Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth Santaland attractions, with the addition of Adelaide and Pacific Fair opening for the 2008 season.
Stage One designs are not restricted to Christmas applications, rather we design concepts which combine visual merchandising and theatrical design principles - historically being commissioned by retail for marketing purposes. Stage One’s extensive 20 years of expertise, ensures our designs combine the appropriate scale, sculptural 3D production, lighting, sound, animatronics and special effects to produce a destination installation.
